News 5th Kyu & Above Course This is a reminder that there is a 5th kyu and above course on 12th September at the Samurai Centre, Kidderminster.Training times - 10am - 1pm. Sensei Tsukada Course This year's Sensei Tsukada course will be 19th -21st November. (note - this is three weeks later the originally stated on our calendar) As soon as we have confirmed the venues, full details will be given. Changes to Kidderminster and Kinver Sankukai Karate Clubs. From July 5th Kidderminster Sankukai Karate Club training times will be: Mondays -- 9.00pm - 10.00pm -- Open session (no formal class) Wednesdays -- 7.30pm - 8.30pm -- Lesson Wednesdays -- 8.30pm - 10.00pm -- Open session Thursdays -- 5.20pm - 6.20pm -- Open session On Wednesdays the dojo will be open from 7pm - 10pm. In open sessions you are free to come and do your own training. There will be others there for you to practice partner work and higher grades to give you tuition if you want it. The sessions are informal and you can come and go at whatever times suit you. Kinver Sankukai Club will be closing. The final session will be Thursday 1st July. More images available in the gallery) Multi Discipline Course This years multi discipline course will be Sunday 4th July, Lacon Childe School, Cleobury Mortimer, 11.00am - 4.00pm. The sessions will be as follows: Padwork and Skipping Workshop with Calvin Collins 5th dan. Calvin is a fully qualified FEKO Coach and is Chief Instructor to the BSKA. He has run 'Skipfit' skipping classes in a number of health clubs & gyms. He regularly trains with former world champion boxer Cornelius Carr. Judo - An introduction to Judo with Ian Mills 4th dan. Ian is a fully qualified BJA Coach and has competed at the highest level. He has fought throughout Europe gaining many medals. He is a World Veterans Open Weight Championship Bronze Medallist. Karate - Close Range Combat with Simon Stone 4th dan. Simon is a fully qualified FEKO Coach and is Assistant Chief Instructor to the BSKA. He has a wide range of experience, training with many World class martial artists. Those karateka used to longer range and competition karate will experience something very different! Knife Defence with John Nelson 4th dan. John is a fully qualified FEKO Coach. He has thirty five years experience in karate and traditional weaponary and armed and unarmed self protection. The session will be knife defence and will include Randori Tanto-No-Kata Those attending are advised to bring a gi and also clothing such as a t-shirt and trackie bottoms or shorts. Also a pair of trainers or running shoes for the skipping session. There will be bag gloves and pads provided. Skipping ropes will be available to borrow or purchase. There will be escrima sticks and kubotans available to borrow and to purchase on the day. As this is not a traditional karate weapon course gis are optional. Weapons Course Venue Change The Location of the weapons course on Sunday 06/12/09 has been changed to Samurai Dojo, Lisle Ave. Kidderminster. All other details remain the same. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused. Weapons Course There will be a weapons course on December 6th at Gilt Edge Social Club, Zortech Avenue, Stourport, DY11 7DY. It will be 10am - 1pm and cost £10 adults, £7.50 juniors. The Instructor will be Calvin Collins and the weapons covered on the day will be Bo staff and Tonfa. If you haven't got you own weapons there will be ones to borrow on the day. Sensei Tsukada Course The Sensei Tsukada course was a great success. The weekend concentrated on Kosokun Sho, Kosokun Dai and Shiho Kosokun. The Saturday was very well attended thanks to the newly joined BSKA members from Stourbridge ESKO Sankukai clubs. Thanks also to Dennis Robinson and members of East Midlands Sankukai and F.S.K.A. (Scotland Sankukai) who travelled down for the course. Brown and Black Belt Grading Well done to all those who passed their grading last Sunday (October 18th) and congratulations to Simon Langford from Kinver Sankukai Club on gaining his 1st dan black belt. All the feed back we have had has been very positive and it was well attended.
